Ed Verhoeff

Image

Ed Verhoeff is one of the leading jazz guitarists in the Netherlands. He played with such musicians as John Abercrombie, Philip Catherine, Ivan Lins, Alex Acuna and Grammy-winning Metropole Orkest. Ed has recorded over 60 Cd’s. Which include 10 as a leader/co-leader.
His latest album is Cloud Chamber. Ed teams up with longtime buddy Paul Berner (from the jazz-based duo Up Close) and Dudok Quartet Amsterdam, a classical string quartet. The result is a completely new form of chamber music: understated but at the same time with great power of expression and very expressive.

‘Clouds are our grand constant companions, as noble as mountains, shapingourdesires, yet as ineffable as the wind. Like music. Imaginehavingyourowncloud’says Ed Verhoeff.
Different occupations alternate in the Cloud Chamber. From an intimate duo to an extended string ensemble, carried by a subtle interplay of lines with strong improvisations.
The repertoire is varied: partly specially written and arranged for this project, supplemented with well-known ‘classics’ from jazz and classical music (i.e. Claude Debussy and Lee Konitz), that come together in a contemporary and timeless story.

Ed Verhoeff – guitars;
Paul Berner - double bass;
Judith van Driel– violin;
Marleen Wester – violin;
Marie-Louise de Jong – viola;
David Faber – cello.
